Understanding Your Deadbolt Grades

Nothing is more important than the security of your home. After all, it’s where you and your family live and keep all of your possessions. One way to ensure your home is as secure as possible is to use a deadbolt lock. But, did you know that there are three different grades of deadbolts? Unlock Indy explains the differences so you can make the best decision for you and your family.

Grade 1 Deadbolts

Grade 1 deadbolts are the most secure locks available on the market today and are typically used in commercial settings. These locks require a great deal of force to break into, making them ideal for those who need to protect their property from vandalism or theft. Additionally, Grade 1 locks have been tested for up to 10 million cycles — meaning they will last longer than any other lock available on the market today.

Grade 2 Deadbolts

Grade 2 deadbolts provide an excellent balance between security and affordability—making them ideal for residential applications. They are not quite as strong as Grade 1 locks but still offer ample protection against forced entry attempts. Furthermore, they have also been tested for up to three million cycles which makes them suitable for long-term use in homes across the country.

Grade 3 Deadbolts

Finally, Grade 3 deadbolts are best suited for interior doors or applications where security is not a major concern. These locks have been designed with affordability in mind. However, they do not offer the same level of protection as higher-grade models. Still, they're strong enough to deter casual criminals looking for an easy target.

Protecting your home is essential, which means using only the highest quality locks available on the market today.
